Robert Powell Publications is a company that believes in the power of good technology and software to motivate and engage learners. This will be true for all ages and for learners in all parts of the world, and so we are extremely proud to have been a software partner of Promethean for 10 years. Promethean is a world-leading designer and manufacturer of interactive whiteboards and learner response systems, and we plan to continue developing resources that are compatible with this ground-breaking technology.
The Raising Achievement series of interactive CDs for whiteboards was the first joint venture with Promethean, and these CDs included the TV game Blockbusters, adapted for education as a key word activity. This was such a successful learning activity for students that a high percentage of secondary schools in England invested in one or more of this series, with the Science CD being purchased by nearly half the secondary schools in England.
More recently, the company has worked closely with Promethean to develop interactive resources compatible with the Promethean Learner Response Systems, Activote and Activexpression. The Race Game AfL (Assessment for Learning) has brought computer games and assessment together in an exciting and stimulating way for learners.
It was launched initially in the UK, but after a wonderful reception for the software from US teachers at the GAETC conference in Atlanta in November 2009, Robert Powell Publications decided to offer it to US schools immediately after the ISTE conference in Denver in June 2010, with Promethean having the sole distribution rights in the US. EyeWrite³, visual planning software that allows all learners to participate in project planning through Promethean’s Activexpression texting function, is also available to US schools.
