2. Technical questions

Q: What operating system can the CDs be used on?

A: They are designed for use on a PC through Windows. They will not work on an Apple Macintosh system. The minimum specification needed is:
233 MHz, 32MB RAM, 200 MB free space.

Q: Can I use the CDs even if I do not have an interactive whiteboard?

A: Yes. If you have a digital projector linked to a PC or laptop in school you can project the interactive files onto an ordinary screen and manipulate the files from the keyboard of the PC/laptop. If you do not have a digital projector then you can use all the activities from the Word files using an OHP for the language games and activities.

Q: Will the Raising Achievement CDs run from a network?

A: No. The CDs need to be installed locally on the PC or laptop that is linked to the interactive whiteboard or digital projector. It takes less than a minute to install and a shortcut will appear on the desktop. The CD can then be removed and stored safely. The files are designed for teacher use and so should be protected from student access.

Q: We have a message that says we have “insufficient privileges”. What does this mean?

A: It usually means that the Network Manager (or ICT team) has installed some blocking measures on the network to prevent unauthorized installations. You will have to ask the Network Manager (or ICT team) to help you.

Q: We already have a Promethean ACTIVboard but there seems to be a problem installing the new CD. What might be the cause?

A: When you install the new CD, make sure that it is installed into the same folder as the existing ACTIVstudio software. If you have already installed the Raising Achievement CD and placed it into a different folder, then un-install the CD and then re-install it placing the software into the ACTIVstudio folder.
